Three Reasons We’re Diabetic Diet Friendly

Three Reasons We’re Diabetic Diet Friendly

Picture this: you walk into the grocery store with your kids one day after school. You’ve promised to buy them a special snack for your family beach day over the weekend, and they’re excited. They pick up bag after bag, eagerly searching the labels. But there’s one big problem: your daughter is diabetic. Your son has multiple food allergies and follows a peanut-free and dairy-free diet. And when snack bags don’t list any warnings about shared equipment but do list a dozen ingredients you can’t pronounce, looking for snacks that fit your lifestyle becomes frustrating, difficult, and disappointing.

We know from personal experience what this is like – and because we understand how restrictive a diabetic diet can be (it’s hard to restrict carbs and sugar, especially as a kid!), we work hard every day to make our snack bites both safe and delicious. Whether you’re gluten-free, nut-free, or soy-free, our snacks are safe for you.

We’ve rounded up the top three reasons why our healthy snack bites are ideal for a diabetic diet, and we’re going to share them with you.

1. We Use Real Ingredients

As a diabetic, you (or your child) spend your days thinking about how to keep your blood sugar within a normal range. “Our bodies desire blood glucose to be maintained between 70 mg/dl and 110 mg/dl,” says James Norman, MD, FACS, FACE. For someone with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, high blood sugars can potentially become life-threatening. It’s essential to keep your blood sugar at a safe level.

So what makes blood sugar go up? Carbs, stress, sugar, and environment are all contributing factors. High blood sugar levels can also be caused by eating highly processed foods. If you’re curious about the scientific details, studies have shown that advanced glycation endproducts (chemicals found in processed foods) might cause insulin resistance.

While highly processed foods aren’t good for anyone, they could be lethal for diabetics. That’s where Forgetful Chef comes in. You won’t find any unpronounceable ingredients on our snack packs, and that’s something that we’re very proud of. Instead, you’ll find ingredients that are real and pure. You may not know what some of them are – our snacks feature superfoods like raw hemp seed kernels and raw black chia seeds, for instance – but you can rest assured that, family to family, we will only serve you the best.

Forgetful Chef snacks are ideal to fit into a diabetic diet and lifestyle without raising blood sugar because our snacks aren’t highly processed.

2. We Control the Carbs

If you’re a diabetic, you know that more carbohydrates equals higher blood sugars – and you also know that higher blood sugar numbers are not a good thing. The majority of our snack bites are very low in carbs. If you average out the grams of carbs in all six of our current flavors, the average number of carbs per serving size is 16g. This means that our healthy snacks are perfect for a diabetic who’s looking to control their carbs.

When you pick up a bag of our snacks, you know that you’re safe. If your blood sugar is a little low and you need to pop something with carbs to get it back into that target range, we’ve got your back too. Our Chocolate and Blueberry bites have 32 grams of carbohydrates per serving, meaning that they can help compensate if you’re below where you need to be.

3. Our Snacks Are Portable

We’ve already established that limiting carbs and sugar intake is hard for anyone. But for children, it’s an even bigger blow to miss out on eating S’mores at the bonfire or cupcakes at a birthday party, or even just lunch in the cafeteria at school.

Children with diabetes or allergies – such as children who eat nut-free, gluten-free, peanut-free, soy-free, or dairy-free – are used to bringing their own snacks along, and they’re probably also used to the fact that often, these snacks just aren’t very exciting.

Studies have shown that kids with allergies or other dietary restrictions often feel isolated at school. “[They] have far more to worry about than the average kid… they may also be concerned about being viewed as different by others, having to eat different foods, or being segregated to avoid exposure to allergens,” says Gene Cash, a school psychologist and psychology professor.

But just because your child has special dietary needs doesn’t mean they should be left behind! Forgetful Chef snack bites are delicious, and they’re also easy to grab and go. Stick them in Mom’s purse and eat them before a soccer game, at a birthday party, or at the gym – the balance of carbs and protein in each serving makes them very workout friendly.

As you can see, our snack bites are ideal for a diabetic diet (or any special healthy diet – we’re nut-free, gluten-free, peanut-free, soy-free, and dairy-free). Forgetful Chef snack bites give you peace of mind: no chemicals that raise your blood sugar. And for the child who’s embarrassed to ask the cafeteria worker how the food was prepared, we provide something that’s both special and safe for their lunchbox.

Remember that scene at the grocery store that ended with disappointment and frustration for both the kids and Mom? With Forgetful Chef, this scene doesn’t have to happen. In a world full of things that are fake, shallow, and processed, we’re trying our hardest to offer you and your family something different. We want to offer you something real.
